I hope I can add something meaningful.I am not a professional or even advanced amateur (bought my first DSLR a few months ago).

Pros of this lens 50mm:

Fast Auto Focus
Full Time Manual Focus
Solid
Quiet
Beautiful Bokeh
Amazing colors
Sharp

Cons:
More expensive than 1.8 (how much does , constructionfull-time manual focusing, quiet auto-focus matter to you? but for me it is not a big deal)
